I  started the journey because I encountered several poorly written  crochet patterns. Nothing will kill your love for crochet faster than investing time and yarn in a project that just does not fit. After having that experience several times over, I figured I'd just write my  own patterns. Each of my patterns is professionally tech edited,  conforms to standard crochet terminology and is adjusted two or three  times (graded 2 - 3 times) so that each garment just fits, from an extra  small up to a 5XL. I also revisit my pattern frequently to see if there is anything I have learned that can make that thing I designed ago  better. Sorry, I'm a bit of an obsessive perfectionist.

A combination of living in the southern United States and wanting to curate my wardrobe has given me a new perspective on timeless dressing. Each of my designs is an attempt to make a garment that you can wear  until it falls apart. This isn't about fashion; it is about creating pieces that fit your personal style. What good is it to spend time and money and materials if your me made sweater can only be worn for 1 or 2  seasons?  My goal is to give you the right plans, options and sizes to create an item that will be well loved and timeless.

Time, money and materials are the resources that go into our finished goods and the items you crochet from my patterns. Each effects the  quality of the final product, our pride in our work, it's longevity and  the environment. Each pattern I write, where it is practical, I will  encourage the use of natural materials. Wool, cotton, line

Each effects the  quality of the final product, our pride in our work, it's longevity and  the environment. Each pattern I write, where it is practical, I will  encourage the use of natural materials. Wool, cotton, linen and rayon will stretch, drape and work up differently than acrylic yarns so each pattern has been designed around these properties.

Who is Elemental Fiber Arts

Marissa Kessler

Back in 2016 my then 7 year old daughter asked me to teach her how to knit. I did not know anything about yarn or knitting, but I figured since crochet only used one "thingy" and not two, it would be easier to learn. To this day, my daughter still can't crochet (what is it they say about mothers teaching things to their daughters) but from that time on I was hooked.

As for my non-fiber life, it's a bit like a Johnny Cash song, "I've been everywhere, man." I grew up in Southern California, in the coastal town of Torrance. At 18 I joined the Marines and was off to seek adventure! Well, that adventure landed me in exotic Yuma AZ. I spent my entire military career there as an Air Traffic Controller. No, no one every buzzed the tower while I  was working. I did end up marring a Marine at the very end of my 6 years in, so over 20 years, we moved a lot and lived from to Orlando FL and San Clemente Ca.

I used the GI Bill to put myself thought college, first at a community  college then on to get a BA in history and a BS in Biochemistry. I currently live Beaufort SC with my handsome husband, Ted, two smart kids, Marcus and Bella, two cats and dogs. You can follow me on  Instagram (www.instagram.com/elementalfiberarts) and Facebook  (www.facebook.com/elementalfiberarts.com) to see what I'm up to.
